In preparation for my wedding John helped me drop 2 dress sizes really quickly. He was very encouraging and helped me set achievable goals for myself.

John made me more familiar with working out and gave me the confidence to exercise at the gym and at home. I feel that now I am able to keep the weight off by following a better diet that he gave me & advice about and doing more regular exercise.

Since starting the session I've not only lost weight and inches which was my original goal, I've gained definition. I'm more toned than I've ever been in my life and I really like it. I have realised that this has become more important to me now than the weight loss.
Apart from my total dislike of all things exercise, I also had to overcome my body's ability to take to exercise due to my arthritis although I have found since the sessions that it has improved greatly. There are still some exercises that I find difficult but I am now aware of suitable alternatives to do so that I can continue to get the full benefit from the classes.

Just seen my consultant for my arthritis, and she couldn't believe how well I've done. She nearly collapsed when I said I'd taken up exercise. Think she'd happily give you a medal John!

1) What was your life like before you joined Fitness Academy Hull? Were you fit already & wanted to tone up or was it because you wanted to lose weight & be healthier?

Karen: About 10 years ago I joined a gym through work (because they paid half the cost) and to be fair I gave it a good shot in the beginning. But after a while I soon gave up. I carried on paying the monthly subscription and after about a year of paying and not going I decided to leave. Since then, I have done nothing! I drive to work, sit at my desk all day, drive home and sit on the sofa all night, so after my weight continued to increase year on year. Then last September, after seeing your banner outside the studio, I decided to see what it was all about. I simply wanted to lose a bit of weight and look better in my clothes.

 

2) What specific results have you achieved since you started training at Fitness Academy Hull?

Karen: I've had brilliant results since I started! I've already lost well over a stone and dropped one (sometimes two) dress sizes. I know I could have lost a whole lot more if I'd really of knuckled down on my eating. But what I love more, is my shape has changed dramatically and noticeably by others. And the feeling is fab!

3) What was the major obstacle for you to begin?

Karen: My worry of not physically being able to do some of the exercises or keep up with the rest of the class. However the classes are just so that all skill levels are taken into consideration. The two exercises I really couldn't do when I started were burpees and sprinter sit-ups. Both of which I can do now!

4) What is your favourite part about Fitness Academy?

Karen: I love the fact that every class is different! There's no chance of getting bored with routine as everything constantly changes! All the people that go to classes get on so well and that makes it a nice social gathering as well.

5) What advice would you give to someone thinking about starting?
DO IT! Once you've joined the only regret you'll have is that you didn't do it sooner!

In recent times, I have become overweight and unfit due to suffering a serious illness. And let's just say making the most of a couple of all inclusive holidays! I decided I needed a personal trainer to help me achieve my goals of gaining lean muscle whist losing body fat.

In the time I have been working with John, I have noticed some major differences, firstly my lean muscle mass has increased a substantial amount, my body fat has decreased and my overall fitness and recovery time are quite simply leagues ahead of what they were. I cannot recommend John highly enough.

1) What was your life like before you joined Fitness Academy Hull?

Jo: I had a degree of fitness due to starting running but my weight loss plateaued. Then I saw your offer on groupon and due to running a 10k signed up for a course of classes.

2) What specific results have you achieved since you started training at Fitness Academy Hull?

Jo: I have lost more weight since joining fitness academy and feel like my body has totally changed in different areas for the better. Now i feel like an athlete!

A normal gym would not give each individual personal attention if they had a goal in mind and be there for that support and guidance when needed.

Jo:  It wasn't an obstacle, like most things it’s all in the mind and if you want to focus on what you want to achieve.

4) What is your favorite part about Fitness Academy?

Jo: What makes Fitness Academy so great is that you can do it to what-ever level you are at. There is always an exercise to make it more challenging, the variation of every session makes it enjoyable and you know you have done something the next day! However long you have been training for!

5) What advice would you give to someone thinking about starting?

Jo: The training sessions are down to you whatever you want to get out of it, whether it be part social or to have a goal in mind. Firstly you have to learn the exercises properly to achieve the best results, a relaxed but challenging atmosphere. 1) What was your life like before you joined Fitness Academy Hull?

Rachel: Ok so life before I started was busy but I felt tired all the time and never understood why?! I wasn't fit because I could run up the stairs without being out of breath! 

2) What specific results have you achieved since you started training at Fitness Academy Hull?
Rachel: The results I've seen in the last 8 weeks are amazing I've lost 8lb and 2% body fat but most of all my confidence has gone up

Rachel: The only thing I hated at the beginning was that I could walk but that was only a small thing lol!

Rachel: My favourite thing about class is that everyone's there for the same thing and so positive!! It's such a great place to be! Made me realise I have many negative people on my life with lots of cants and I feel like I'm becoming more a can person which for me is a massive change. 


5) What advice would you give to someone thinking about starting?

Rachel:  All I could say to someone thinking about starting would be DO IT it'll be the best thing you ever do, you know, after your first week of thinking you’re dying!! It might sound cheesy I know but as well as trying to change my body I want to change my thinking too and so far it’s all going in the right direction.

I wanted to lose weight after having my daughter. Once she was over 1 - I decided I could no longer blame her for the additional weight. With John I lost 1 and a half stone and am still aiming to lose more. This has been achieved by 1 PT and 1 class a week minimum and a lot of motivation and expertise from John. 

This meant my wedding went great as I felt better, happier, am more active for my daughter, my dog and my horses and can easily lead the lifestyle I want to..  

After loosing the weight I feel better and so much happier. But most importantly I am more active for my daughter.

What was your life like before you joined Fitness Academy Hull?

Laura: I joined Fitness Academy Hull on a 6-week challenge after seeing it online. I contacted John who was really helpful and invited me to the studio to talk through what the challenge was about. A year and a half on and I'm still training here. In short, I love it! It's like no other gym that I've been to. I used to do fitness classes before joining FAH but never felt like I was improving my fitness and now I've never been so fit.  Each class is different which is what I like the most and everyone in the sessions is friendly and supportive, no one judges you. John is so supportive and doesn't make you feel bad if you've gone off track, instead he will sit down with you and help you re-focus. I don't think I thank him enough for the amount of support he gives me.

Laura: Since joining FAH my fitness has improved, I've changed shape, lost 2-stone and I'm much happier in myself.

Before starting Fitness Academy Hull like most women I dipped in and out of each passing fad, step aerobics, Zumba and endless gym memberships. None of them ever kept me motivated like the Fitness Academy Family. John is highly knowledgeable in health and fitness and can tailor make a programme to suit anyone, of any age and any fitness level. Believe me I had zero. Now I believe I am the fittest, strongest and most positive I've ever been. So glad I gave it a try.. Don't think about it do it.

I've had extensive experience in fitness training for several years and wanted to find a gym that could meet my needs and inspire me to workout in different and challenging ways. Fitness Academy Hull is much more than you would expect from run of the mill fitness centres or gyms.

Each session is planned around different levels of fitness, so if you're a beginner looking to lose a few pounds, or you need something more advanced, John and the rest of the staff are more than happy to accommodate your requirements. The members are friendly and approachable, and the gym is really more of a community than a group of individuals with their own goals.

You'll get encouragement to achieve things you didn't think were possible, you'll also get nutritional advice and access to an online forum to discuss sessions, training in general, recovery/post workout advice etc. There are also family events and BBQs you'll be invited to, as well as regular events such as tough mudder and other running or obstacle events.

It's hands down the friendliest gym I've ever been to. The results speak for themselves too. I've smashed several “PB”s (personal-bests) working with John and had lots of fun doing it. I'd recommend FAH to anybody.

I started fitness academy hull just over 18 months ago and can honestly say it's the best thing I have done. I look forward to every session with the lovely people who never fail to impress me and put a smile on my face. I have taken part in a 10k run which I never thought I would be able to do and am about to take part in the Yorkshire warrior at the weekend thanks to the belief in me of John Moss and the rest of my fitness family.

I have learned a lot about nutrition and eating, but also that it is ok to have a treat now and again without feeling guilty. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending anyone to give fitness academy a go, you will be so glad that you did. It’s a little bit of "me" time every week and I love it.

I have been training with John for approximately 4 years. Prior to this, I was in the RAF and did circuit training regularly, so thought I was pretty fit! However, since working with John, I actually have muscles now, have pushed myself further than ever before, started running and really enjoy it, have done a 10k, tough mudder and countless challenges!

When I left the airforce I found it difficult to fit into life, missed my friends and colleagues, being part of a team and the sense of belonging. Joining the fitness academy has been the best thing I could ever have done, apart from feeling fitter and stronger, I am part of a team, have made loads of new friends and definitely feel that I belong to something fab! I could never commit to continuous exercise until I was introduced to Fitness Academy Hull by my sister. I always got bored and lacked confidence going to a gym, swimming pool, aerobics class on my own - feeling paranoid that everyone is looking at me.

1st session at  Fitness Academy Hull felt like I would never be able to walk up the stairs again. 2 years on and I’m still going strong not only can I walk up the stairs, I attend workouts on my own, never feel the odd one out, get encouragement and inspiration from everyone who attends.

What have I achieved in 2 years? .....Self confidence, belief in myself, a toned body, I have learnt to not feel guilty for taking time out for me, and also how to have a kitchen full of ingredients to cook quick healthy meals instead of eating processed foods. I have a coach who is honest and believes in me. John takes into consideration everybody’s needs and creates workouts to suit everyone. He pushes us to our limits and beyond! I've been a member of various gyms over the years & never really got anywhere and found the experience boring, lonely & never saw any results. I was recommend to try fitness academy & I've never looked back. Best thing I've ever done. There are so many good things it's hard to name them all, but here goes. John is a fantastic knowledgeable, committed & full of enthusiasm trainer. Who is always keen to help & encourage anyone who needs it.
